    Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association Scholarships

    The Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association (DSBA) is an organization comprised of local sports media professionals and students. In addition to putting on both social and philanthropic events, they also provide scholarships to Specs Howard School of Media Arts students. Read on in the press release to learn more about the scholarships and grants and also see who the lucky Specs Howard students winners are. 

     

    The DSBA announced Monday, September 29th it will award nearly $19,000.00 to area students, high schools, and colleges as part of their 2014 Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association Grant Fund and Scholarship Awards program. The Program is part of an escalating effort by the DSBA to provide funding and resources to area students committed to the pursuit of sports media careers, while enabling schools and colleges to share game broadcasts, news, and feature stories with bigger audiences through streaming video and audio content.

     

    DSBA Grants will be distributed to students and programs at the following institutions:

     

    1.    Escanaba Senior High School

    2.    Grosse Pointe North High School

    3.    Grosse Pointe South High School

    4.    Haslette High School

    5.    Hillman High School

    6.    Marygrove College

    7.    Mason High School

    8.    Montrose High School

    9.    Whittemore-Prescott High School

     

    In addition to the Grant distribution, the DSBA is also awarding four scholarships to students of Specs Howard School of Media Arts.  Specs Howard students Elizabeth Crenshaw, Stephen Lefebvre, Ryan Ranguette, and Cyrus Raymond will be recognized as scholarship recipients at the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association Annual Detroit Red Wings luncheon on October 7, 2014 at Hockeytown Café.

     

    “The Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association has a rich tradition of supporting young men and women pursuing sports and news broadcasting careers,” said George Eichorn, Executive Director of the DSBA. “We are very proud to recognize students and programs from Detroit to Escanaba.”

     

    Added Vicki Foley, DSBA President: “We are extremely happy to give back to our communities as part of our mission to support education in this unique and powerful way.  We are also very grateful for the continued support of our members, sponsors, and donors who recognize the importance of providing guidance and funding to our future sportscasters, writers, and reporters through their dedication and generous contributions.”

     

    Funding for the Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association educational program is made possible through sponsorship from Farm Bureau Insurance and Lotus Bank, as well as through participants in the DSBA Charity Golf Outing and donations from numerous other annual contributors.  The Detroit Sports Broadcasters Association is a registered 501(c) (3) Organization.
